FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC – The Independent Center released a survey of 1,200 likely voters younger than 45. The survey finds Vice President Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump 50 to 42 percent. Additionally, respondents believe Harris and the Democrats would do a better job handling seven of eight major issues like the environment, health care, and the economy. The poll was conducted by the Independent Center and the Bullfinch Group.
The survey asked a series of questions particularly relevant to the 18 to 44 cohort. One series focused on the attainability of the American Dream. Below are a few examples of the American Dream questions.
The American Dream is not simply 2.5 kids, a house, and a white picket fence. America is the land of opportunity, where people are encouraged to follow their dreams. We asked respondents their thoughts on the ability to start their own thing and become successful.
Another section asked about student loans, having children, phone addiction, and pornography, among others. Below are a couple of examples of those questions.
Independent Center Chief Technologist, Vance Reavie, said, “Millennials and Gen Z are the majority voting demographic; if we are going to engage younger voters in the political conversation, we need to address and understand their priorities. The American Dream is evolving; we can see that in the data, the ground is shifting with the demographic changes. We’re excited to dive into the issues to influence our leaders to get focused and provide some real leadership and a vision for the future. The American Dream should speak for us all. It was never left or right. It was - and is - nonpartisan. This is an opportunity to rise above the partisan fighting that only works for the parties.”
The online survey of n1200 likely voters was conducted from October 18 to 22, 2024. The full survey has a margin of error of ± 2.83 percent. Independent Center conducted the survey in conjunction with The Bullfinch Group, an accredited, nonpartisan polling company. Fielding quotas implemented to ensure representative samples on gender, age, race, political affiliation, and geographic area.
