Pennsylvania Voters: A 2024 Election Preview

Pennsylvania voters are disillusioned with 2024 candidates—can swing voters tip the scales?

The Big Picture

As Pennsylvania voters head into the 2024 election, 76% report a negative view of the current political climate. Majorities of both Democrats and Republicans in the state feel their parties have failed to select the best presidential candidates, highlighting a deep dissatisfaction with the choices on the ballot.

With immigration (25%) and the economy (23%) emerging as the top issues, voter priorities are clear. However, 15% of Pennsylvanians say they might change their vote before Election Day, making the state’s outcome highly uncertain.

Zooming In

Voter dissatisfaction with major party candidates

When asked, “Do you feel the Democrats have chosen their best candidate for the upcoming election?” 58% of Pennsylvania voters said no. Meanwhile, 76% of voters believe Republicans have also failed to select their strongest candidate.

This level of dissatisfaction suggests that many Pennsylvanians are looking for alternatives beyond the two-party system—or at the very least, better representation within it.

Key issues for Pennsylvania voters

When asked “What is the most pressing issue in America today?”, Pennsylvania voters identified:

  1. Immigration (25%)
  2. Jobs and the economy (23%)
  3. Taxes (10%)
  4. Abortion (7%)

With economic concerns and immigration topping the list, candidates who fail to address these priorities risk alienating the state’s key swing voters.

Swing voters will decide Pennsylvania’s outcome

In our survey, Trump leads Biden in Pennsylvania, 44% to 38%, with 12% of voters preferring an Independent or third-party candidate.

However, 15% of voters say they are open to changing their minds before Election Day.

With a significant portion of the electorate still persuadable, both parties must appeal to these undecided voters if they want to secure Pennsylvania’s critical electoral votes.

Independent Lens

The data is clear: Pennsylvania voters are deeply frustrated with both parties and their candidates.

With immigration and the economy driving voter sentiment, candidates must provide clear, pragmatic solutions rather than relying on partisan rhetoric. Swing voters will ultimately determine the outcome in Pennsylvania, and candidates who fail to address their concerns risk losing a key battleground state.

If neither party adapts, Pennsylvania’s growing number of disillusioned voters may look beyond the traditional two-party system for alternatives.
